They refer to the group by various names… retirees, active adults, seniors, whatever. None of those truly seem to fit. But you know who we are. For me, we are “pre-tirees”. It doesn’t actually matter what chronological age we may be; pre-tirees are folks who do their homework to make sure that we land in the best location for ourselves when it’s time for the ‘active adult’ phase of our lives. I have a relative who puts it this way: if this is sports, these are our colleagues who are entering the 4th quarter of life. It’s a more active involved segment of people than those who are further along in their retirement, for instance the folks who may have specific housing or medical needs, or a structured environment for their wellbeing. My relative refers to that second segment of folks as being in the 5th quarter of their lives. This relative is not famous for his tact. But for now let’s focus on my fellow 4th quarter population and how I can best connect you to the information you need.
One of the first pages I created was the Charlottesville golf information page because, well, hey, …I like to play golf. And I know you might need other information that may get taken for granted, such as places to stay or reasons to visit Charlottesville. I realize that – – if you don’t have a reason to live in Central Virginia – – no property that we see will suit your plan. You probably need to fall in love with the area before you can fall in love with any particular home or neighborhood. That’s great. That’s also part of my job. I love to welcome newcomers to town to show them why the locals are so in love with our ‘not-so-well-kept-secret’ paradise. We have sports, a vibrant intellectual life and a university, proximity to DC, Blue Ridge mountains, and plenty to do if that’s what you want. It’s also a pretty great place to just hang out on the patio and observe nature. We have culture but we’re not the sort to pronounce it like culllll-chah. (Although we do have a road named Rio that rhymes with Ohio but that’s another story.)
